Reading comprehension workbook for Classes 6-8

Why practise reading comprehension

Reading a passage is not the same as understanding it. Reading comprehension practice teaches a learner to find the main idea, pick out the details that matter, work out what the writer only hints at, and explain an answer in their own words.

These skills help in every subject, because every subject is learned by reading. Regular practice with different kinds of text also builds vocabulary and makes unseen passages in tests feel less strange.

How this workbook works

The pack has 10 reading worksheets across different kinds of text. There are stories, factual passages, a biography, poems, a school notice and advertisement, and a diary entry. Each worksheet has the passage and a set of questions, from easy to challenging.

The questions include MCQs, true or false, match the following, fact or opinion, short answers and long answers. Every question shows a difficulty rating, so a learner can start with the easier ones and work up.

After the worksheets, an unseen passage test and a 20-mark revision paper let a learner check their progress. A score tracker keeps the marks in one place, and a certificate of completion marks the finish.

Print and use at home or in class

The workbook is a PDF made for printing. It prints in colour or black and white, on A4 or Letter paper. Parents can use the answer key for every question to check work quickly, and teachers can use the worksheets and the 20-mark paper as ready tests.
